Yucca filimentosa

Vinca minor
BLUE PERIWINKLE Z3
Blue flowers, hunter green leaf. Excellent for trailing over planters or along pathways. Shade tolerant. Likes sawdust mulch. Plant 20cm apart, water heavily first year and the leaves will form a dense mass.

Euonymus fortunei 'Kewensis'
TRAILING EUONYMUS Z4?/25cm
Most useful of plants. A little mound from Japan with tiny bright waxy leaves. Resembles miniature holly. Good in corners or planters. Easy to transplant. Stays green all year.

Yucca filamentosa
ADAM'S NEEDLE Z4/1m
Under-utilized in Canadian landscaping, this 'arctic cactus' offers one of the few desert effects available to northern gardeners. The Navaho weave Yucca leaves into baskets & sandals. It flowers with a startling explosion of cream-colored spikes. Prefers full sun & good drainage.

J.G. Frazer's The Golden Bough, published between 1890 and 1915, led the way to a more penetrating examination of the rituals of death and rebirth, and their association among primitive peoples with the seasonal cycle and the fruits of the earth on which human life depends.
